The new head of the Jusos, Philipp Türmer, is considered left-wing and critical. The Young Socialists are angry at the Chancellor, but Finance Minister Lindner is also in the spotlight. Above all because of the debt brake.

The new federal chairman of the Jusos, Philipp Türmer, has called for the debt brake to be abolished. “My primary goal is to overturn the debt brake. Here we will look for a conflict with the traffic lights and in particular with the FDP,” said Türmer to the “Tagesspiegel”. The traffic light coalition of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP must legitimize itself “by being able to overcome the challenges of this time.” “No coalition is an end in itself, not even this one,” said the Juso leader.

Without converting the industry to climate neutrality, the climate goals will “never be achieved”. However, this is only possible with investments. Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) “must now do his job and explain where this money will come from,” demanded Türmer. On Wednesday, the Federal Constitutional Court declared a reallocation of loans worth 60 billion euros in the 2021 budget to be null and void. They were approved to deal with the Corona crisis, but should be used for climate protection and the modernization of the economy. Now the billions are not available.

Türmer also criticized Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s behavior in the coalition: “It’s not enough for me if a Social Democratic Chancellor only enjoys the role of moderating two arguments,” said the Juso leader. “Especially when the centrifugal forces push the FDP and the Greens in different directions. Then the only result is standstill – and we really can’t afford standstill.”
