In the new Rostock “Polizeiruf 110” Katrin König investigates for the first time without Bukow. Instead, his half-sister Melly Böwe turns up.

A new wind is blowing in Rostock: After Charly Hübner (49), aka Sascha Bukow, gave up his career as “Polizeiruf 110” commissioner, Katrin König (Anneke Kim Sarnau, 50) has to cope on her own. But not for long, because Bukow’s half-sister Melly Böwe (Lina Beckmann, 40) appears in the new case “You can’t choose your family” (April 24, 8:15 p.m., the first) and is involved in the investigation. A single mother and her son have been found dead – and Böwe has more to do with the matter than König would like…

That’s what “Police Call 110 is all about: You can’t choose your family”

A mother and her son are found dead in a family home. The single mother has multiple stab wounds. The son, paralyzed from the neck down, died of a stroke because his IV was not changed. Katrin König takes up the investigation and knocks on the door of Jens Sommer (Christian Beermann, 47), the boy’s ex-husband and father. The Genth family, who were good friends with the Sommer family, also takes a close look at the profiler. Do Jule (Susanne Bormann, 42) and Holger (Jörn Knebel, 52) have something to do with the death of the two – or their foster children Emma (Paraschiva Dragus, 21) and Max (Alessandro Schuster, 20)?

The suspicion is confirmed when it turns out that Max has disappeared. König takes part in the search without further ado, defying her superior. Because he had received instructions that the Rostock team should stay away from Max, since the boy lives with a hidden identity. Melly Böwe travels from Bochum to ensure exactly that and takes charge of the search for Max. As it turns out, the inspector has a close connection to the boy…

Is it worth turning on?

Absolutely. Not only because it is the first case without Sascha Bukow aka Charly Hübner. The actor passed on the Rostock crime story staff to his wife Lina Beckmann. Although the character’s farewell is still hovering over the heads of the protagonists, it is nevertheless a new beginning. “Although the Rostock DNA is completely present in this film and although there is of course König’s melancholy at having lost Bukow, something very new is emerging,” screenwriter Florian Oeller (43) describes the situation.

At the center of the story is a middle-class foster family who appear to be perfect on the outside. But the truth is that things are bubbling beneath the surface – which is only gradually becoming apparent. This makes the case extremely exciting and surprising twists add spice to the plot. In addition, König’s past is also discussed, since the profiler herself grew up in a foster family.

The focus is primarily on one person: Melly Böwe. The character is already known to “Polizeiruf 110” fans from the episode “Sabine” (March 2021). In the new case, the single mother does not come to Rostock to start a new job. Instead, she takes on the case as an external party – which offends König. With this unusual start, the makers create an exciting dynamic between the two. Because the encounter is not very harmonious at first.

“At first glance, they can’t do much with each other, but then they are impressed by how good the other is,” explains Lina Beckmann in an interview with the broadcaster. Although the two characters are very different, they meet as equals. And after the first sniff, something like trust flashes. However, anyone hoping for a Bukow 2.0 will be disappointed. Because Böwe has very little in common with her half-brother. While Sascha was driven by a dark side, Melly has an honest and warm personality – which brings a breath of fresh air to the team.

But not only Beckmann shines in the new Rostock case, the cast is generally well selected. Above all, Alessandro Schuster stands out from the ensemble. In his role as the fugitive Max, he oscillates between helplessness, desperation and being overwhelmed – which you buy from him one hundred percent. All in all, the new “Polizeiruf 110: You can’t choose your family” is convincing all along the line and the interaction of the two actresses Lina Beckmann and Anneke Kim Sarnau definitely makes you want more.
