Yevgeniy Breyger’s “Peace Without War”: Language fights itself free – culture

After February 2022, the poet Yevgeniy Breyger had to rediscover his language again. Encounter with someone who tries not to lose sight of beauty in the face of violence.

How it all began is about in the middle and bears the title “statt explanation”. In February 2022 he completed a volume of poetry, writes Yevgeniy Breyger, even a pretty good one, “baroque language, far from everyday life, master class craftsmanship”. But then it happened: “After this line, the war breaks out.” A book full of poems without a word about the Russian attack, the war, the bombing of his native city of Kharkiv – such a book was impossible.
