Yemen – Ceasefire for two months – Politics

According to the UN, the conflicting parties in the civil war-torn Yemen have agreed on an initial two-month ceasefire. They should start this Saturday evening, said the UN special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, on Friday. The aim is to give people a break from violence after seven years of war and to resolve the conflict in the long term. The ceasefire can be extended with the consent of both parties to the conflict. A military alliance led by Saudi Arabia announced a few days ago that it would temporarily halt operations against Yemen’s Houthi rebels. At the same time, internal Yemeni talks about an end to the conflict began in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. However, the Houthis stayed away, rejecting talks in Saudi Arabia.
