Yellow star pinned: criticism of Israel’s UN ambassador Erdan

“A shame”: Yad Vashem leader Dayan has accused Israel’s UN ambassador Erdan of misrepresenting history. He protested against the latest UN resolution with a yellow star on his lapel.

The chairman of the board of the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial, Dani Dayan, has sharply criticized the Israeli UN ambassador Gilad Erdan and accused him of distorting history. The fact that Erdan had put on a yellow Jewish star during his appearance at the UN Security Council denigrated the victims of the Holocaust and the state of Israel, Dajan wrote in the short message service X, formerly Twitter.

During an appearance at the UN Security Council on Monday, Erdan pinned a yellow star on his lapel that read “Never again.” He will now wear this until the Security Council condemns the terrorist attacks by the Palestinian Hamas. Erdan said his employees also wore such stars.

The Nazis forced Jews to sew a yellow Star of David onto their clothing that said “Jew” on it.

“Today we are masters of our fate”

Dayan went on to say that the Jews in the Third Reich were helpless, but that the state of Israel was not. Erdan’s actions were “a disgrace for both the victims of the Holocaust and for Israel.”

He asked Erdan to put the Israeli national colors on his jacket. “The yellow spot symbolizes the helplessness of the Jewish people when they were at the mercy of others,” he wrote. “Today we have an independent state and a strong army. We are masters of our destiny. Today we wear the blue and white flag (of Israel) on our lapels, not a yellow patch.”

CDU politician Hardt expresses his understanding

Erdan received support from Germany from CDU foreign politician Jürgen Hardt. “In view of the shame that the United Nations, as the guardian of international order and human rights, was unable to clearly condemn Hamas’ terror against Israel, the Israeli ambassador’s reaction is only too understandable,” said the foreign policy spokesman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group the news agency dpa.

Hardt said that the events of October 7th should also be understood by the Islamic world as a turning point. “The Palestinians in Gaza are particularly suffering from Hamas’ reign of terror. The Islamic world should support Israel in the liberation of the Gaza Strip if it is serious about a subsequent political solution,” said Hardt.
