Soon a woman on the perch? Yaël Braun-Pivet, the Minister of Overseas, was chosen by the deputies of the presidential majority to be a candidate for the presidency of the National Assembly, Wednesday June 22.

The former president of the Law Commission at the Palais Bourbon, re-elected deputy for Yvelines on Sunday, won in the second round of a joint vote with the deputies MoDem and Horizons. She won 105 votes against 85 for the outgoing chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee, Roland Lescure.

Yaël Braun-Pivet could be the first woman to occupy the perch of the hemicycle of the Palais-Bourbon. She had already presented herself in 2018 for the perch before withdrawing her candidacy against Richard Ferrand, who was beaten in the second round of the legislative elections.

The vote of all deputies will take place on Tuesday June 28 at 3 p.m. It takes an absolute majority to be elected in the first two rounds of the ballot, but if it is not obtained, a third round with relative majority is organized. Annie Genevard, deputy LR and former vice-president of the Assembly, has already made it known that she will also present herself.
