Xinjiang, the region that locks up Muslims, the Saturday doc

Khalida Aqitqan lost track of her family after she went to China. Alongside the Uyghurs, the Kazakhs are locked up in prisons and forced to work in factories. The United Nations estimates that 1.5 million Muslims have been, or still are, in detention facilities in northwest China. Like Khalida, many people seek to find their missing loved ones.

The mass incarceration of Uighurs in Xinjiang is well documented. But what is less known is how China harasses and intimidates Uyghurs and other Chinese Muslims living abroad to silence them or bring them back. Featuring videos of the victims themselves, this documentary reveals threats and emotional blackmail by the Chinese government, to bring back Muslims who have fled or to silence critics of mass incarceration and labor camps. The film also reveals the threats received and the consequences for those who resist. This story is told through the second largest minority: the Kazakhs.
