Xiaomi has given both the Xiaomi 13 and the Xiaomi 13 Pro a case made of glass and metal, with an optional “microceramic” surface called “Skin” being offered, which not only feels pleasant but is also protected against discoloration . The German camera manufacturer Leica is again responsible for the tuning of the cameras and both models have an official IP68 rating for the first time.
Under the hood is the latest top technology, because Xiaomi not only offers the new high-end SoC from Qualcomm, but also equips the devices with LPDDR5X RAM and the new, even faster UFS 4.0 flash memory. The customer can choose between variants with eight or 12 gigabytes of RAM and 128, 256 and 512 GB of internal flash memory.
The Xiaomi 13 is the smaller version with a 6.36-inch OLED screen and 1080p resolution. The Xiaomi 13 Pro is significantly larger at 6.73 inches, but it also has a 1440p resolution. Both panels each achieve a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hertz.
Sony and Leica provide good cameras
While Xiaomi was still working with Samsung on the image sensors in the previous series, they are now swinging back to Sony and installing the IMX800 sensor with 50 megapixels and up to 8K resolution with 24 FPS in the Xiaomi 13. The Xiaomi 13 Pro has it again Sony IMX989 in 1-inch format and 50 megapixel resolution, which is said to have become significantly more light-sensitive.
In the Pro model, a 50 MP sensor is also used for the telephoto zoom and the ultra wide-angle camera. In the smaller Xiaomi 13, on the other hand, the zoom cam only works with 10 megapixels, while the ultra wide-angle camera has a 12 MP sensor. Xiaomi also equips the main and zoom cameras of both models with an optical image stabilizer. The 32-megapixel cameras on the front are also identical.
With the 13-series base model, Xiaomi allows the 4500mAh battery to be charged with up to 67 watts, while the Pro model has a large 4820mAh battery battery pack comes up and allows 120 watts per cable. Both models can also be charged with Xiaomi’s proprietary wireless charging technology with up to 50 watts. Xiaomi relies on the new MIUI 14 based on Android 13 for the operating system.
In China, the Xiaomi 13 starts at a price of 4000 yuan, which is the equivalent of a good 540 euros. The Xiaomi 13 Pro is priced at 5000 yuan, which corresponds to almost 680 euros. When they are introduced in Europe, the devices are likely to be a bit more expensive, although it is still unclear when this step will follow.
