Invited on the set of TF1, this Tuesday evening, following the political office of the Republicans, the president of the Hauts-de-France region, Xavier Bertrand, indicated that he “will not be a candidate for a primary” of the right.
“I am a candidate for the presidential election. It is a meeting between a man and the French. I will not be a candidate for a primary ”, he declared, before adding:“ The primary was a source of divisions. Last time, all those who were chosen by a primary were eliminated in the first round ”.
While the number one of LR had called for “responsibility”, the president of the Hauts-de-France region rejected the idea of an “open primary” on the right, demanded by several tenors of the Republicans, including Valérie Pécresse and Laurent Wauquiez. “I am convinced that there will be only one right-wing candidate (…) and that he will win the presidential election. I will be a candidate for a single term, ”he continued.
