Würzburg: Two arrests in 25-year-old murder case – Bavaria

In the case of a murder of a Turkish innkeeper in Lower Franconia that has been unsolved for more than twenty years, the police have caught two suspects. As the police and public prosecutor announced on Monday, new information led to the arrest of a 49-year-old from Arnstein (Main-Spessart district) and a 66-year-old from Würzburg last week.

The two men are therefore suspected of having murdered the owner of the “German-Turkish Cultural Association” in Würzburg on January 5, 1999. The then 55-year-old was shot several times. He died from his injuries on site. The murder has not yet been solved. According to the information, the two men are already in correctional facilities due to strong suspicion. The police have set up an investigative commission based on the new lead.

Last Friday, investigators searched various residential and business premises of the suspects and possible witnesses in Würzburg, Arnstein and Zellingen. In some places the investigators also dug for evidence, it was said. The police and public prosecutor initially did not want to provide any further information about the new lead and the suspects.

The investigation into the case in 1999 initially focused on the innkeeper’s environment. A 23-year-old Turk, who was considered a suspect shortly after the crime, was released after a few days.
