Würzburg: Man “frees” relatives with dummy weapons from clinic – Bavaria

In order to take the patient in acute need of treatment with him, he points the supposed weapon at a nurse. While still on the clinic premises, the police arrested the 27-year-old, who is so drunk that he himself has to be treated by a doctor.

A 27-year-old threatened the staff in a Würzburg intensive care unit with a deceptively real-looking weapon and took away his relatives who were in acute need of treatment. The very drunk man was arrested on the clinic premises, as the Lower Franconia police headquarters and the Würzburg public prosecutor announced on Thursday.

The man had visited a closely related 31-year-old in his patient room on Tuesday afternoon and wanted to take him with him. Doctors and a nurse tried to prevent this due to the patient’s health, whereupon the 27-year-old pointed a dummy pistol at them and left the ward with his relative. “He wasn’t quite able to act, he just went along,” said a police spokesman. “But coercion wasn’t involved.”

The situation, which initially appeared drastic for the officers, was quickly cleared up when they arrested the 27-year-old. The man was so drunk that he first had to receive medical treatment himself before he could be brought into custody the next day.
