Würzburg: imprisonment for arson attack on local politician’s car – Bavaria

The accused, who is said to have been involved in the “lateral thinking” scene, has to go to prison for three years for intentional arson. The court also found him guilty of other crimes.

A 31-year-old was sentenced to three years in prison by the Würzburg District Court for setting the car of a local politician in Lower Franconia on fire in Kitzingen. The court found the man guilty on Wednesday, among other things, of intentional arson, as a court spokesman announced in the evening.

According to the indictment, the man set fire to the car of a Kitzinger city councilor on February 4, 2022 at night to give the local politician a lesson. According to the court, the 31-year-old is said to have been involved in the “lateral thinking” movement around the turn of the year 2021/2022 and was also a member of the Bavarian party until February 2022. The accused is said to have disagreed with the way his party colleague held office and his statements on general corona vaccination. According to the defendant, the politician had positioned himself against the party line and against “lateral thinking” protests.

The 31-year-old is said to have set the city council’s car on fire with petrol and a grill lighter. The fire spread from the car to an adjacent house where the man and his wife were sleeping at the time. The regional office of the Bavarian party in Kitzingen was also in the house. The car burned out completely, the shutters and windows of the house were damaged by the fire.

The charge was premeditated arson in conjunction with attempted aggravated arson. In addition, the indictment accused the man of prohibited possession of weapons and possession of child pornography. The police had found a butterfly knife and hundreds of files with corresponding content on data carriers in his apartment. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
