Würzburg: 43 “Last Generation” protesters taken into custody – Bavaria

Police arrested 43 people at a Last Generation rally in Würzburg. At a final rally of the climate movement on Tuesday evening, around 20 participants are said to have blocked the B19 in several places, the police said. The group did not clear the area even after several requests from the emergency services, which is why the police ended the meeting.

The police officers then began to break up the sit-ins and issue evictions. The participants are said to have continued to block the road, after which 43 people were taken to surrounding riot police offices. 36 of them were later released. Seven activists, who reportedly did not rule out taking part in further actions during the night, remained in police custody overnight. The police are now checking whether an investigation will be initiated due to coercion.

During the day there were already two demos of the last generation in Würzburg on Tuesday. The closing rally in the evening followed two elevators in the afternoon. According to the police, the demonstrations on Rottendorfer Strasse and further south on Ebertsklinge and Kantstrasse took place without major incidents. According to the police, up to 80 people each took part in the two elevators on Tuesday.

The climate activists had announced that there should be increased actions in several cities in Bavaria this week. The protest march in Würzburg, which took place on Monday, should be the prelude to this.
