Würmtal communities promote inclusion – district of Munich

The municipalities of Gräfelfing, Planegg, Neuried and Krailling want to draw attention to the situation of disabled people with 40 events between October 8th and November 18th. It’s already the third inclusion weeks in the Würmtal, they are again supported by the two districts of Munich and Starnberg and organized by the Planegger Würmtal Island and the Inclusion Working Group. Gauting isn’t participating this time. In 2014 and 2017 more than 3000 people from the west of Munich took part, in 2020 the planned series of events fell victim to the corona pandemic.

At a press conference in Planegg on Wednesday, representatives of the Würmtal island and the communities pointed out that, according to the UN Human Rights Convention, disabled people have the same rights as non-disabled people in all areas of life. Ten percent of all people in Germany are disabled. They have no real lobby and often have to struggle through life every day, are constantly confronted with “experiences of exclusion,” as Friederike Hopfmüller from Würmtal Island said in the interview with the press.

It’s about “creating a constant welcoming culture for disabled people”. Anna Tangerding, who among other things acts as a contact person for disabled people on the Würmtal island, emphasized that equal treatment must become “a matter of course”. The Neurieder Disability Officer Robert Efinger said: “Inclusion is a human right.” But the reality in society looks different and is “bitter”. In Bavaria, for example, disabled children are usually sent to special schools. “It’s the opposite of inclusion,” criticized Efinger.

The four municipalities want to continue to make a financial contribution

The Planegger Disability Officer Fritz Haugg complained to the press that many people still confused inclusion with integration. Haugg emphasized, however, that “in the Würmtal, inclusion has arrived in the hearts of people”. Mayors Peter Köstler (Gräfelfing, CSU), Hermann Nafziger (Planegg, CSU), Rudolph Haux (Krailling, FDP) and Harald Zipfel (Neuried, SPD) assured that their communities would continue to provide financial support for all areas of inclusion. Nafziger pointed to the decades of successful cooperation between the municipality of Planegg and the “Regenbogen” association at the local recycling center.

From October 8th to November 18th there will be a wealth of events in the four participating communities: readings, discussions, cultural and sporting events, workshops and training courses are on the program. On Saturday, October 8th, the mayors and district administrators will symbolically climb the Naturefriends’ climbing tower at the Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium in Planegg together with the disabled.

Registration is required for many events. This is possible on the websites of the individual organizers. All dates and registration options can be found below www.wuermtal-insel.de or on the homepages of the individual Würmtal communities.
