Write without fear: Many refugees take part in the school newspaper WIR. – Bavaria

What is happening there on the Belarusian-Polish border must be stopped by all possible means. I do not believe there is a person on earth who will simply accept continued human rights violations, injustice, beatings and hunger. That’s exactly what motivated me to write the article. There is always a way to help, to shout loudly for the world to hear.

I come from Iraq and fled there on September 22, 2021 with my friends who I had met before and who also wanted to escape. I fled my country because of the problems caused by the wars there and the militias that rule us. I had to leave my family behind and have not been able to see them again. My job, my school, my friends and everything that meant my life was a thing of the past.

We first came to the city of Minsk, the capital of Belarus. I was traveling on a road that had only recently become passable. The road was supposed to take me to Poland and from there to Germany. Every attempt to cross the border into Poland failed due to resistance from border guards. So I stayed there for ten days. Every day I tried to get through somehow. The smuggler helped me a little to get through. He sent me addresses for my GPS on my cell phone. The ten days at the border felt like ten years. We have paid the price for the political problems there.

The school newspaper of the Schwandorf vocational school took first place in the vocational schools category with the title topic “Happiness.”

After arriving in Germany, I was surprised by the difficulty of life here and I was surprised by the laws passed by the immigration authorities and the immigration authorities. For example, no one is allowed to work without a work permit. Nobody is allowed to move out of the asylum home. I had suffered a lot along the way and seen things I couldn’t bear. All we can do here is try to build a better life for ourselves in the face of all the problems.

The biggest motivation for me to write for the school newspaper was that I could finally tell my story, that it would be read and that people would talk about it. It’s truly a wonderful thing when you can share everything you care about without fear of dire consequences. It’s our world. And it is our life. It is everyone’s duty to do something to make things better. We have pens, laptops and a newspaper. So let’s get to it.
