“Wow. That’s not offside” – BVB star angry despite victory

Although BVB progressed in the Champions League against Eindhoven, a situation afterwards caused discussion. Even with a German national player.

However, this is almost impossible to see with the naked eye. That’s why the fans in the stadium cheer exuberantly when Füllkrug then puts the ball into the goal with a direct shot. But suddenly referee Daniele Orsato gets a tip and decides: Offside – the hit doesn’t count.

Füllkrug can’t understand this at all and talks to the referee. But that doesn’t help. The decision stands, which in retrospect doesn’t change BVB’s 2-0 (1-0) victory. The success ensures Westphalia’s place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after the 1-1 draw in the first leg.

Füllkrug, despite all the euphoria about progress, doesn’t let go of the scene. “I was sure it wasn’t offside,” said the striker after the game when watching the slow motion on DAZN.

A closer look from above reinforced this impression for the German national player – and he became a little angry in an interview with reporter Daniel Herzog. “Wow. You can’t score a goal with your arm. Why is that offside?” he added.

Then Füllkrug paused for a moment, looked more closely at the pictures and added: “Woah, woah. That’s not offside.” When the reporter pointed out that he had stood with his shoulder a little closer to the goal, Füllkrug replied: “Now define shoulder. For me, that’s not offside.”

Terzić takes the missed goal calmly

His BVB coach Edin Terzić reacted to the scene much less emotionally: “It doesn’t matter what I or Niclas Füllkrug say. We talk so often about referee decisions that you realize how close everything is. We’re just happy that we are further along.”

Terzić added: “The quarter-finals are not a given for us. I believe we deserve to advance through the two games.” His team played “perhaps the best first 30 minutes of this season”. “Unfortunately in the second half we stopped playing with the ball but defended passionately,” Terzić continued.

Meanwhile, Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel was downright euphoric. “It just feels really, really nice. I’m really happy,” said the Swiss. At least in terms of the result, his colleague Füllkrug also went along with it.
