Status: 11/22/2022 7:21 p.m

Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo have separated and one of the biggest stars of the World Cup in Qatar is suddenly without a club.

The English record champions confirmed the Portuguese’s departure on Tuesday evening (November 22nd, 2022). The decision was made by consensus. Ronaldo had previously criticized the coach and the owners of the club in an interview.

United announced the decision in a succinct statement on their website, writing: “The club would like to thank him for the immense contribution he has made over two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wish him and his family well for the future.”

Ronaldo’s farewell message

According to the English newspaper Daily Mirror, Ronaldo himself said goodbye with a message to the fans. “I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never change. However, it feels like the right time to seek a new challenge.”

Ronaldo’s harsh criticism of United

Ronaldo returned to his old place of work in the summer of 2021, but was unable to repeat his former heyday and has recently been increasingly sidelined. Ronaldo had already played for the Red Devils between 2003 and 2009 and started his world career there.

Before leaving for the World Cup, Ronaldo had struck harsh accounts with United on the show “Piers Morgan Uncensored” and thus made the headlines off the pitch. United is said to have turned on its lawyers.

Portugal start the tournament in Group H against Ghana on Thursday at 17.00 CET. Other group opponents are Uruguay and South Korea.
