Schubert songs staged as musical theater in the imposing Armory in New York. The classical music fans there are currently very excited about the world premiere of this project, which is firmly in Munich’s hands, with Claus Guth as director, Jonas Kaufmann as interpreter and Mathis Nitschke as sound designer. He now reports on the rehearsals on Park Avenue.

It’s just mid-morning in New York, so the Munich composer still has a long day of rehearsals ahead of him, so they treat him to breakfast, which he eats at the same time. At the time of the conversation there are still about two weeks until the world premiere of “Doppelganger” (the umlaut dots have been lost in American) on September 22nd. The Park Avenue Armory in Central Park, once a military building and now a renowned venue for modern and alternative art, theater and music performances, advertises it with the face of Jonas Kaufmann.
