A year ago, darts professional Gabriel Clemens achieved his greatest success at the World Cup. When he returns to Alexandra Palace, the Saarlander will be celebrated accordingly.

Germany’s best darts professional Gabriel Clemens has noticed increased enthusiasm for himself on his return to Alexandra Palace.

“It’s of course a nice feeling when you arrive and see German flags everywhere and groups singing your name,” said the 40-year-old from Saarland in London. Clemens had previously won his first World Cup game 3-1 against Man Lok Leung from Hong Kong. In fact, German support in the Ally Pally was more clearly visible than ever before.

A year ago, the German Giant, as Clemens is called, made it into the World Cup semi-finals completely unexpectedly. The success does not only have positive consequences, as Clemens described. “The sport itself is still the same. Media work is just part of it. You don’t get back to your family or your girlfriend that quickly. That’s a bit annoying sometimes.” If you have won, things will be “better”.

The German leader will travel home over the Christmas holidays. In round three we face the English world-class player Dave Chisnall. “My draw is not that easy. I’m just trying to play well against Dave Chisnall,” announced Clemens.
