Despite her race to catch up, Franziska Preuß, who has only just gotten fit again, narrowly missed out on a podium finish at the Biathlon World Cup in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
Despite her race to catch up, Franziska Preuß, who has only just gotten fit again, won the Biathlon World Cup in Switzerland Lenzerheide narrowly missed out on a podium finish.
The former world champion worked her way up from seventh to fourth place in the ten-kilometer pursuit race. Justine Braisaz-Bouchet defended her first place despite missing three times. Her French compatriot Julia Simon took second place. After two penalties, she crossed the finish line 25.2 seconds behind the winner. The third-placed Norwegian Marit Ishol Skogan (2 shooting errors) distanced Preuß by 2.4 seconds.
“I’m glad that it worked out so well,” said Preuß, who was recently out of action due to a corona infection, in a ZDF interview. “Today I was a bit like remote control because you notice the lack of oxygen. But I fought until the end and I’m super happy.”
While Preuß made two shooting errors, Vanessa Voigt hit all the targets. She improved by 14 places and landed in seventh place. Janina Hettich-Walz, who recently broke the association’s internal World Cup standard, took eighth place after one penalty. Young talent Selina Grotian had to do five extra laps and narrowly missed out on World Cup points in 41st place.
