The German cross-country skiers are still in good spirits. After third place the day before, the team can once again look forward to a podium finish. It was almost enough for Victoria Carl to win.

Victoria Carl has already given the German cross-country skiers their second place on the podium at the World Cup in Lahti, Finland, and narrowly missed out on victory.

The 28-year-old only had to admit defeat to local hero Krista Parmakoski in the 20-kilometer race in the classic technique. Carl was only 1.9 seconds away from the winner. The Finnish Kerttu Niskanen came third.

For Carl it was already the fifth individualPodium finish this winter. The Thuringian, who sensationally won the gold medal with Katharina Hennig in the team sprint at the last Olympic Games, has established herself among the absolute best in the world.

This time Hennig had nothing to do with the fight for the top places. On Friday, the 27-year-old took third place with Laura Gimmler in a thrilling team sprint.
