The World Cup group victory of the German table tennis women is a first stage success. The dream of winning a medal is alive.

The German women’s table tennis team qualified for the round of 16 at the Team World Championships in China.

Han Ying (KTS Tarnobrzeg), Nina Mittelham and Shan Xiaona (both TTC Berlin Eastside) also won their third preliminary round game against the Czech Republic 3-0 in Chengdu and are now the group winners in the knockout round that begins on Wednesday.

“We came here with the dream of flying home with a medal,” said Mittelham, who came second at the European Championships. “Now we’ve completed the first stage and won the group. Everything else now also depends on the draw.” After first place in the preliminary round group 5, the team of national coach Tamara Boros cannot meet another group leader in the round of 16.
