World Cup 2023: Domingues, Roord, Walsh: the most expensive transfers in women’s football

The Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand has started. In the days leading up to the start of the tournament, the second most expensive transfer in women’s football was announced. The Brazilian Milene Domingues previously held the record for 18 years. The then 22-year-old set this up in 2002 when she switched from the Italian club Flammamonza to the Spanish club Rayo Vallecano – and she joined her husband: Ronaldo.

Neymar still the record holder with 222 million

Compared to the men, however, the sums in women’s football are bargains. Neymar’s transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 holds the record for 222 million euros. Incidentally, Neymar paid the transfer fee himself. It was stipulated in an exit clause for a premature end of the contract. According to media reports, he received the money from Qatar Sport Investment, the sole owner of PSG.
