Pole vault genius Armand Duplantis is also in a league of his own at the World Championships. There are also favorites in the shot put and over 5000 meters.

The German sprint relay for European champion As expected, Gina Lückenkemper was not able to take part in the fight for the medals in the World Cup final in Budapest like a year ago.

The quartet, which was weak in comparison to the World Championships in the USA, took sixth place at the World Championships in Athletics after 4 x 100 meters. Louise Wieland, Sina Mayer, Lückenkemper and Rebekka Haase crossed the finish line in 42.98 seconds. A year ago, the relay team led by Lückenkemper and Haase won bronze.

The title went to the Americans in a world championship best time of 41.03 seconds. In the men’s race, the US relay team led by star sprinter Noah Lyles, who celebrated his third gold medal in Budapest, also won in 37.38 seconds.

Shot putter Yemisi Ogunleye finished her final in tenth place with 18.97 meters. In the pre-fight, the 24-year-old from Mannheim hit the ball at 19.44 meters to her best distance, which would have been enough for eighth place. Sara Gambetta (SV Halle) was twelfth with 18.71 meters. The victory went to the American defending champion Chase Ealey with 20.43 meters.

Duplantis continues triumphal march

Swedish pole vault artist Armand “Mondo” Duplantis continued his winning streak. The Olympic champion and world record holder successfully defended his title from 2022 with 6.10 meters. The 23-year-old – frenetically driven by the crowd – just missed the world record of 6.23 that was set afterwards.

World record holder Faith Kipyegon of Kenya won her second 5000m title after winning the 1500m. Last year’s third placed Marco Arop from Canada, who was born in Sudan, won over 800 meters.

The German Athletics Association is not represented in the finals of the relays over 4 x 400 meters on Sunday. Jean Paul Bredau, Marvin Schlegel, Marc Koch and Manuel Sanders finished eleventh in the heats with a time of 3:00.67 minutes. Only 44 hundredths of a second were missing for the finale. Luna Thiel, Mona Mayer, Alica Schmidt and Carolina Krafzik finished tenth after 3:27.74 minutes.
