Working people in the district of Munich are the healthiest – district of Munich

In the district of Munich, every employed person was on sick leave for an average of 9.1 days last year. “That was the lowest level nationwide,” says Christian Bredl, head of the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) in Bavaria, after a preliminary evaluation of the Health Report 2022 of the health insurance company. With a calculated 9.4 sick days for each employed person, the city of Munich took fourth place in a nationwide comparison, and Starnberg seventh with 9.7 days. Nationwide, every employed person was absent from work for an average of 14.6 days due to illness. “That was around 50 percent more than in the three Upper Bavarian regions,” summarizes Bredl.

According to the Techniker Krankenkasse, every employed person in Bavaria was on sick leave for an average of 12.6 days last year. That is 0.4 days fewer than in the previous year. “The range in the Free State, however, was very large,” said Bredl. “In the district of Kronach, every employed person was 19.3 days absent due to illness, in Haßberge 19.1 days and in Freyung-Grafenau 18.5 days. That was about twice as long as in Munich or Starnberg.” The Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony had the highest sick leave rate nationwide, with an average of 23.5 days lost per employee.

In the Munich area, mental illnesses such as depression caused the most absent days. They were responsible for around every fourth day lost due to illness. Across Bavaria, mental illnesses (2.6 days per employee), musculoskeletal disorders (2.3 days) and respiratory diseases (1.5 days) were the main reasons for absenteeism.
