Workers died on Wacker Chemie factory premises – Bavaria

A worker was hit by a hydraulic hammer during construction work in Upper Bavaria and died. The heavy equipment came loose from an excavator at the construction site on the chemical company Wacker’s factory premises in Burghausen (Altötting district) when it was in use on Tuesday morning, the police said.

The excavator bit hit a 57-year-old worker from an external construction company from the Regensburg district and injured him so badly that the man died on site. According to the information, the police and public prosecutor’s office began investigations on suspicion of negligent homicide against the 54-year-old excavator driver from Thuringia.

According to a spokesman for the chemical company, the workers were in the process of opening a construction site for a new building on the factory premises. The asphalt surface had to be broken up and removed.

After the accident, the factory fire department and rescue services responded immediately, but any help came too late for the worker. The company’s health service provided psychological support to two employees of the construction company who witnessed the accident. “There is deep consternation at the plant about the accident,” said the company spokesman. “Our condolences go out especially to the relatives of the deceased.”
