On the other side of the world, one of the biggest sporting events for women is taking place: the soccer World Cup. On the first day of the World Cup, New Zealand take on Norway in Auckland and Australia take on Ireland in Sydney.
The countries Australia and New Zealand share the organization of the tournament this year. 32 teams compete against each other, a total of 64 games are held. The USA won the title at the last World Cup. The previously known dates of our time of the German national team in the group game phase are:
- Monday, July 24, 2023 – 10:30 a.m. in Melbourne, Group H: Germany vs. Morocco
- Sunday, July 30, 2023 – 11:30 a.m. in Sydney, Group H: Germany vs. Colombia
- Thursday, August 3rd, 2023 – 12:00 p.m. in Brisbane, Group H: South Korea vs. Germany
From August 5th, all those who have survived the group stage will then go into the round of 16. All games will be broadcast by the public broadcasters ARD and ZDF. Due to the time difference to Australia and New Zealand, all games are in the morning of our time or even in the early hours of the night and morning.

In a total of ten stadiums, the world championship trophy will be fought over. Germany was able to get hold of it in 2003 and 2007 and was European champion eight times. However, the last tournament success was a decade ago, that was the European Championship in 2013. Under the direction of coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, German captain Alexandra Popp will lead the national team through the World Cup this year.
The friendly against Zambia on July 7th. the DFB-Elf lost 2:3 – but as the saying goes: “The dress rehearsal has to go wrong for the show to be good!”. On August 3rd at the latest it will be decided whether the Germans will make it into the last sixteen of the World Cup – or whether the journey will come to an early end.
