So that women can feel safe on the way home at night, the city introduced the women’s night taxi on March 1, 2020. Since then, they have been able to pick up vouchers for taxi rides free of charge. The offer, which was initially designed as a trial, is now to be introduced permanently. The city council’s district administration committee will decide on it this Tuesday.
The vouchers are available in the citizens’ offices, the social community centers, the equal opportunities office and in the city information center in the town hall. Three vouchers will be handed out, the value of which should increase from five to six euros. Only one voucher can be submitted per trip, this also applies if several women use a taxi together.
Since the trial phase began, 24,600 vouchers have been issued, of which 3,400 have been billed. Because they were not aware of the offer, taxi drivers occasionally refused the vouchers, which is why the taxi industry continues to do educational work. In addition to the paper version, the city wants to develop a digital voucher from next year.
