After the 4-0 defeat against Bayern, the Wolfsburg footballers only have a very slim chance of winning the championship. The Munich women’s cushion is too big.

The footballers of VfL Wolfsburg have practically given up on their championship dreams after the clear defeat against league leaders FC Bayern Munich. “I think it’s very, very unrealistic that Bayern can still take that away. That’s how honest I am,” said VfL coach Tommy Stroot after the 4-0 defeat in the Bundesliga against Munich.

“Bayern won’t let this go, we don’t need to sugarcoat it,” said defender Kathrin Hendrich. “0:4, that definitely sounds bad.” But the result “doesn’t fully reflect the game,” added the central defender. FCB player Giulia Gwinn agreed: “At that height, that sounds very, very extreme. I don’t think it was that extreme.”

With this success, the Munich team took a big step towards their second championship in a row. The defending champions extended their lead to seven points with five matchdays remaining. “I don’t want to get too carried away, but I think we’ve given ourselves a pretty good cushion,” Gwinn said.
