In “ Everything is explained », The sexuality meeting of our podcast Wait a minute !, we are going to talk about relationships between women and the medical world for the management of their sexual life, their possible pregnancy and childbirth. From puberty and throughout their lives, women put their bodies in the hands of gynecologists. While they can be apprehended, the vast majority of these medical appointments go well. Sometimes not. They are then the place of guilt-making, infantilizing, humiliating reflections, intrusive, unwanted, even brutal medical acts. They can create or participate in childbirth experienced painfully by women.
Listening, dialogue and respect for women
These words, these gestures happen most of the time without bad intention, or incompetence on the part of the caregivers. They are part of what is called “gynecological and obstetrical violence”. They reflect a bad experience of women in the medical world. A widely shared experience, to very varying degrees. Gynecological and obstetrical violence is not inevitable. We can put an end to it by training and improving the working conditions of medical personnel, dialogue between caregivers and patients, and information.
