After 15 years, the woman wanted to return to Great Britain – but died during the flight. Her family had to sit next to her corpse on the plane for the terrible hours.

What began as the start of a new life ended in a deadly tragedy for the Rhodes family: On Friday, the family of four boarded a plane from Hong Kong to Frankfurt. From there the journey was to continue to Great Britain, the mother’s home country. Due to the corona pandemic, they had not seen their family in Great Britain for a long time.

The anticipation of seeing the British relatives again turned into a farewell that the family could not have guessed. Because the 46-year-old dies on board the plane.

Family sits next to the body for eight hours

According to a fundraising campaign for the bereaved, the woman is said to have stopped responding a few hours after the plane was in the air. All attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful. “All this happened in front of their children,” writes a friend in the appeal for donations. She is said to have sat lifeless in her seat for the remaining eight hours – right next to her family, who used the time to say goodbye to her.

When they arrived in Frankfurt, all passengers first got off the plane before Helen’s body was taken outside. Her husband and two children flew on to the UK.

Deceased was involved in a support group for mothers

The friend remembers the deceased with the best words: She “was unique, a jewel. She was a midwife by profession and was always there to help and advise anyone who needed her.” The Rhodes family had lived in Hong Kong for more than 15 years.

Her neighbors knew and valued the woman. “She couldn’t walk a meter without meeting someone she knew by name,” the appeal for donations reads. She also founded a support group for mothers, which was joined by 200 women and she helped them with questions about medical issues.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the widowed husband and two children to help pay for funeral expenses and other expenses.
