Wolves take their ease in the department

The wolves have entered the Doubs. Casually, the wolf is gaining ground in France. Very long after having been almost eradicated from the territory, we now see them appearing even in Hauts-de-France. And in the Doubs, the animal seems to feel at ease. So much so that the prefecture of the department has confirmed the presence of three specimens, installed on the Jougne side.

Two male and one female wolves were regularly observed last winter in the Jougne sector, in the south of the department. according to France Bleu which cites the conclusions of the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. The presence of these three specimens was confirmed by compiling sightings and reports collected by the wolf-lynx network.

Waiting for a possible summer breeding

On the other hand, the OFB is not yet moving forward to classify this sector as a zone of so-called “permanent” presence of the wolf. Indeed, the summer period should be decisive to know if the three wolves have decided to stay in the area and reproduce, thus creating a pack.

Even further south of the Doubs, the wolf-lynx network considers, on the other hand, that the sector of the Risoux forest is a zone of permanent presence of a pack of wolves. Just as, not far from there, on the other side of the Swiss border, the presence of a pack is proven in the Marchairuz sector.
