Wolfgang Schäuble: Farewell to the place where he loves it – BILD exclusive | politics

It will be a farewell like that of a former Chancellor or Federal President.

Wolfgang Schäuble (†81), the legendary CDU politician who died on Boxing Day, will receive two large public funeral services!

As BILD learned, the funeral service for Schäuble will take place next Friday, January 5th, in his beloved hometown, the place where he loved Offenburg (Baden-Württemberg). With everything that political protocol has to offer: military honors, parade through the city, probably even with horses. The public can say goodbye. Schäuble will also be buried in Offenburg on Friday.

The official state ceremony in Berlin is scheduled for the end of January. The leaders of the state are expected here.

Schäuble sat in the Bundestag for 51 years, longer than any other German politician, served as minister (interior, finance, chancellery) for two federal chancellors – first Helmut Kohl, later Angela Merkel – and served as President of the German Bundestag from 2017 to 2021. A once-in-a-lifetime career! Schäuble has been in a wheelchair since the assassination attempt by a mentally disturbed lone perpetrator in October 1990.
