Poor Wi-Fi reception in the garden again? It doesn’t have to be. These tips will help.
Anyone who has just made themselves comfortable in the garden under the awning or parasol to stream their favorite series is often confronted with poor reception. Often the reaction is to find the best place to catch some of the coveted WiFi rays. It’s also easier and more convenient. These tips ensure better reception in the garden.
The simplest solution is often to place the Internet router elsewhere in the house. A longer cable to the telephone jack allows for a different location. In case of doubt, this is already sufficient to extend the signal to the garden or terrace. If this is not possible, it is worth purchasing an indoor repeater. This only has to be connected to a socket in order to collect and pass on the WLAN streams to another point in the house.
In dry weather, it can therefore be worthwhile to set up a repeater near the garden or terrace. Some manufacturers recommend placing the repeater in the middle with visual contact to both the router and the end device, if possible, in order to achieve the best WiFi quality.
Repeaters, outdoor repeaters and the emergency solution
Positioning multiple repeaters in a row is also an option. However, it should be noted that the data transmission speed is roughly halved with each repeater. To get around this, a dual-band router should be used that is capable of both 2.4 and 5 gigahertz. This means there are enough channels to choose from to quickly send the data packets from repeater to repeater.
However, be careful with the end device, because some of them, especially e-book readers, can only process 2.4 gigahertz. Another option is an outdoor repeater that can be placed outdoors. The best devices transmit data at a speed of up to 3,000 Mbit/second, are weatherproof and available for less than 300 euros.
If the worst case scenario occurs and the WLAN in the garden fails during a football or other live broadcast with friends, the mobile data volume is the only immediate solution in case of doubt. However, this step needs to be carefully considered. It is best if the person who is closest to their next mobile phone bill makes their mobile data available as a hotspot.
