She was merciless. Big favorite in the final of the Australian Open against Qinwen Zheng, a novice at this level, Aryna Sabalenka gave the Chinese no chance on Saturday January 27 to win her second Grand Slam (6-3, 6 -2). The Belarusian, who only lost 31 games in eight matches in the tournament, folded in just over an hour against a 15th in the world who was overwhelmed in the first game, where she was broken without registering the least point.
After the early elimination of world No. 1 Iga Swiatek, Sabalenka had the royal road to her own succession, and she did not miss it. Here she is with two career Grand Slams at 25 years old. The Belarusian is the new boss of the WTA circuit, having reached the final four in eight of her last ten Grand Slam appearances.
