Would you like a drink, but don’t want to have a list right away? With alcohol-free liqueurs in the mix, cocktails become “lighter” without losing their aroma. Stern expert Ilona from thetastebar.de presents her two favorites.

Since the advent of non-alcoholic liquor, it’s easier than ever to make cocktails without fuel. While most non-alcoholic liqueur manufacturers focus on gin or wine alternatives, Australia’s Lyre’s Drinks has developed a whole range of such alternatives. These include delicious liqueurs that are perfect for preparing low-alcohol or non-alcoholic cocktails. I present my two favorites here.

Amaretto Liqueur: Lyre’s Amaretti

The spicy and semi-sweet amaretti is a great alternative to classic amaretto liqueurs like Disaronno. Made with fresh almonds and fragrant vanilla, it’s delicious and aromatic with a rich, nutty flavor.

Preparation tip: Personally, I like to drink amaretti with lots of lemon juice as a non-alcoholic Amaretto Sour. To do this, I pour 100 ml of Amaretti over a large ice cube and squeeze out a quarter of a lemon. The acidity of the lemon pairs perfectly with the amaretti, making it a great post-meal drink.

You can also use the liqueur for baking or with coffee.

Coffee Liqueur: Lyre’s Coffee Originale

Of the Coffee originals is an intense and aromatic alternative to coffee liqueur like Kahlua. Made with bold espresso, roasted nuts and caramel, it has an intense and pleasantly sweet coffee flavor that’s great for coffee-based cocktails like Espresso Martini or White Russian.

Preparation tip: Combine Amaretti and Coffee Originale in a glass with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a non-alcoholic Affogato.

The great thing about these non-alcoholic liqueurs is that they both contain 80 percent fewer calories and a third less sugar than their alcoholic alternatives.
