Withings is adding a new sports watch model to its hybrid smartwatch collection at the turn of the year. The “Scanwatch Nova” is considered the successor to the “Scanwatch Horizon” introduced in 2021 and comes in a diving watch look. The watch can be ordered now from Withings for just under 600 euros and will also be available from selected retail partners from mid-January.

The technical inner workings of the Scanwatch Nova are similar to those of the Scanwatch 2 presented at the IFA. With the revised “HealthSense” operating system and numerous sensors, the watch records various medical data. The watch detects signs of illness based on fluctuations in the base body temperature.

The watch should also detect atrial fibrillation using an ECG function. It also measures the heart rate during the night and determines the oxygen content in the blood on demand. In addition to sleep, the “Scanwatch Nova” can also monitor the female cycle.

The watch’s acceleration sensor supplies data to algorithms that help the Scanwatch automatically recognize more than 40 sports. For sports, the “Scanwatch Nova” offers various programs that help assess fitness levels based on health and movement data.

According to the manufacturer, the battery of the ScanWatch Nova lasts up to 30 days and can be charged within two hours. The watch achieves this long running time due to its hybrid structure: the pointer and the dial are physically present, so that a screen does not have to be constantly lit to display the time. An embedded mini display shows additional data.

The ScanWatch stores health data for up to 7 days on the watch, beyond which it is transferred (unlimited) to the company’s own cloud. The connection to the Android or iOS mobile phone with the Withings app installed is via Bluetooth Low Energy.

While the case (43 mm diameter) and steel bracelet (20 mm lug width) of the “Scanwatch Nova” are borrowed from the previous model “Scanwatch Horizon”, Withings has carefully changed the dial, the hands and the rotating ceramic bezel. The hands are now filled with luminous material and the indices are framed on the dial. The dial is sunburst.

The round data display embedded at the 12 o’clock position is now a grayscale OLED; the manufacturer calls it a “Retina” display. The totalizer hand at the 6 o’clock position shows the progress of the set movement goals in percent.

The “Withnings Nova” is available in the dial colors blue, green and now also black. According to the manufacturer, the watch is waterproof up to 10 bar. In addition to a charging cradle, the scope of delivery also includes a plastic bracelet, which should be more comfortable to wear during sports than the steel bracelet.
