For phone fraudsters, senior citizens are usually easy victims. But these tricksters from Würzburg were fooled by an elderly woman herself.

Alleged grandchildren demanding money or supposed old friends – these are popular scams by telephone fraudsters. In the process, senior citizens in good faith quickly become victims of these criminals. Tricksters from Würzburg were also hoping for this when they called a senior citizen. But the elderly woman turned the tables without further ado – and put them in.

Wrong game on the phone

According to the Lower Franconia police, said senior citizen received a call on Tuesday in which the callers demanded money from her. The lady’s daughter is said to have caused a serious traffic accident, according to the fraudsters. The seniors quickly realized that this could not be true – she has no daughter at all.

Instead of confronting the con artists, the clever lady decided to set her up as well. On the phone, she arranged for jewelry and money to be handed over. But when the time came for the handover, there were only toilet paper and pickle jars in the bag. A friend of the lady had previously informed the police about the perpetrators.

Suspects have been caught

Two construction workers observed the strange handover and notified the police. At the same time, they started tracking the two suspects. Finally, thanks to the interaction between the elderly woman, her acquaintances, the construction workers and the police, both suspects aged 15 and 22 could be provisionally arrested. The ingenuity of the old ladies was rewarded.
