With its tribute concert to Barbara, the INA explores the fourth dimension

On stage Raphaël, Barbara Pravi, JoeyStarr, La Grande Sophie… On the screens and in the ears, Barbara… Monday September 18 on the stage of the Grand Rex in Paris, the National Audiovisual Institute is organizing ” Reluctanlty “a heritage concert (including 20 minutes is partner) built around the Lady in Black. “There have been many events where we reinterpret Barbara,” explains Agnès Chauveau, deputy general director of theINA. But here, we integrate archives into the show, and that creates special emotions. »

The concept, already deployed for a tribute to Bashung in 2019, found its echo among the artists. “We don’t have the budgets for very large productions and yet, everyone is up for it,” confirms Bertrand Maire, who heads the institute’s territories and diversification department. Barbara, through her positions, has something contemporary. And this format, which amplifies the concert with archives and digital creations, creates atypical moments. »

Broadcast on CultureBox

The concept also seems to have found its audience. The INA is already considering organizing other concerts for deceased or living artists. “We are keen to reach as many people as possible, and live performance allows us to reach people who perhaps do not listen to our podcasts or do not watch our videos on YouTube,” comments Agnès Chauveau.

With this new production, the INA continues its musical and stage explorations. Already in 2019, the institute launched an electro festival at the Palais Brongniart in Paris, INASound. A diversification not necessarily obvious for a brand associated with screens. Not so surprising for those who know the history of Musical research group, this pioneering experimental center for electronic music, attached to the INA since 1975. “We began our diversification where we were most legitimate,” explains Bertrand Maire today. This allowed us to open up many avenues. »

That of the Grand Rex should be full. But those who did not manage to obtain their place will still be able to catch up on their screen: the concert, captured by France Télévisions cameras, will be broadcast on Culture Box then will be available on Madelen, the INA’s video-on-demand service. “Of course, it’s not the scene, it’s very pretty all the same,” Barbara would no doubt have sung.
