With BeamO, Withings unveils the thermometer of the future

Hello, Doctor? Withings is taking advantage of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which is being held in Las Vegas from January 9 to 12, to present BeamO. The French company, a pioneer in the world of connected health with its first 2.0 scales launched in 2009, is going even further by offering a 4-in-1 self-assessment medical device, otherwise called a multiscope.

8 users, 8 months of battery life

To be used alone for checkup regular monitoring of one’s health, but also in the context of medical teleconsultations, this small box runs on battery (autonomy: up to 8 months) and can aggregate health data from up to 8 different users within an application. BeamO first acts as a thermometer. Advertised as more precise than Withings Thermo launched a few years ago, the device performs its measurements using an infrared beam directed at the temporal artery (located at the level of the temples). Simply point one of its ends towards the forehead and detect the artery so that the measurement can be carried out.

The heart and lungs in the viewfinder

Thanks to its sensors and electrodes, BeamO can also measure blood oxygenation (SpO2) and heart rate using a single-lead electrocardiogram (ECG). Here again, this measurement is carried out simply by placing two fingers on the electrodes housed on the side of BeamO. Its results, medically certified, are displayed simultaneously on the multiscope screen in the form of curves and are automatically synchronized with the Withings application.

BeamO, from Withings, is expected to be released in June 2024. – Withings

Finally, by measuring acoustic sound waves from the chest or back, BeamO acts as a digital stethoscope. Thanks to a piezoelectric disk, the heartbeat and lung movements are measured, recorded or even… heard if desired using headphones to be connected via USB-C. Which sounds can also be transmitted to a doctor as part of a teleconsultation.

Marketed next June at a price of 249 euros, BeamO from Withings will complete the range of connected objects dedicated to health developed by Withings: scales, activity watches, blood pressure monitors, etc. At CES 2023, the manufacturer unveiled U-Scan, its home urine analysis laboratory. But it is still not marketed.
