How do you open a Spezi? Stupid question. With the bottle opener, of course. Or maybe with a different bottle. Or with a worn out lighter. At the Biertragerl. Everything is still far too easy, seven young people from Rosenheim thought and set up an Instagram account under the name “Spezi Suchtis”. Every few days they present a new way to open a bottle with the sugar mush in a video. They have already tried out a whopping 145 alternatives to the bottle opener, and by the end of the wonderfully pointless project it should be 200. It sounds absurd – and it probably is – but it’s been extremely well received on the Internet: more than 100,000 people are now following the guys.
If you scroll back to the top of the Instagram feed, you end up at Part One, published in July 2022. Here the bottle is opened in no time on the handlebars of a city scooter. One of the addicted friends triumphantly raises his arm in the air and grins at the camera, while the other toasts happily. In Part 38, one of the boys holds the bottle cap to a mobile lawnmower. As he drives off, the bottle pops open. What do you do when you don’t have a bottle opener at hand? Or how about Part 128: just open your beloved friend with an excavator shovel? Works too. In any case, the seven Rosenheimers are not lacking in creativity.
Incidentally, the Spezi of their choice is, to be precise, not an original Spezi at all – one remembers the heated dispute between the Augsburg brewery Riegele and Paulaner over the rights to the name – but a “coke-orange mixed drink” from the Rosenheimer Flötzingerbräu. For the Spezi Suchtis it is still their “best Spezi”.
And while the teenagers happily open one soda after the other and have already drunk crates by the crate, the people in the comments below the videos are already thinking about the future – in a Bavarian manner: In a few years, the seven teenagers would probably no longer be friends, but open beer. Let’s see if the addicts will eventually become the beer addicts. Hopefully not.
