It’s windy in Oberstdorf, which also messes up the schedule for the Ski Flying World Cup. This also has an impact on the competition on Friday.
Strong and changing winds have led to the cancellation of qualification for the Ski Flying World Cup this weekend Oberstdorf led. Both two planned training sessions and the qualification could not take place on the Heini-Klopfer ski flying hill, as the world association FIS announced.
“There was too much wind in the ski jump today. It was impossible to jump. That’s a shame because the ski jump was well prepared,” said national coach Stefan Horngacher after the cancellation. On Friday there will be two training jumps for each athlete at 1 p.m. “The super team competition will then be reduced from three to two jumps. The reason for this is the regulations that for safety reasons, athletes are only allowed to make four jumps on one day in ski flying,” explained the Austrian.
At the home World Cup, a super team ski flying event is planned for Friday (3:45 p.m./ARD and Eurosport) and two individual competitions for Saturday and Sunday (both 4:00 p.m./ARD and Eurosport). In addition to the established jumpers Andreas Wellinger, Karl Geiger, Stephan Leyhe, Philipp Raimund, Pius Paschke and Felix Hoffmann, the German Ski Association (DSV) is also sending a national group to the start for the second time this winter. This also gives Finn Braun, Luca Roth and Martin Hamann the chance to prove themselves in ski flying.
