Austrian Kraft wins overall ski jumping World Cup

Stefan Kraft is once again the winner of the yellow jersey. He underlined his ski jumping dominance on Sunday while flying in Vikersund.

Stefan Kraft won the overall ski jumping World Cup for the third time in his career. The Austrian also won the day in Vikersund after a flight of 244 meters and distanced himself from his pursuer Ryoyu Kobayashi from Japan, who came ninth. Kraft had already secured the coveted yellow jersey in 2016/17 and 2019/20.

The podium behind the 30-year-old was completed at the huge facility in Norway by Kraft’s compatriot Daniel Huber, who jumped 247.5 meters, and Domen Prevc from Slovenia with 236.5 meters. The competition was rescheduled after Saturday’s weather-related cancellation and was held in one round. In the afternoon (3:30 p.m.) the individual, which is regularly scheduled for Sunday, follows.

The German jumpers had nothing to do with the podium finishes. Andreas Wellinger managed 216.5 meters, but didn’t get past sixth place. Stephan Leyhe (13th), Pius Paschke (15th) and Philipp Raimund (29th) also scored World Cup points. Karl Geiger had a very bad day, failing to clear more than 113 meters and thus finishing 39th out of 40 jumpers. Only the disqualified Benjamin Östvold landed behind Geiger in beautiful sunshine.

On the other hand, 51-year-old Noriaki Kasai was competitive. The Japanese flew 212 meters and took 27th place. Kasai had disappeared from the stage in the World Cup for several years and is now back again.
