Who is showing the competitions of the 2022 Winter Olympics on TV or as a live stream? The broadcasters ARD, ZDF and Eurosport share the rights to the Olympics in Beijing. Here you can find out where which decisions can be seen.

After years of protest and criticism, the Beijing Winter Olympics will start on Friday, February 4th. China’s handling of human rights and the zero-Covid strategy, which condemned hundreds of athletes and spectators to quarantine in the coming days, was repeatedly criticized. Notwithstanding, the games traditionally begin on Friday with a grand opening ceremony. The first preliminary round games in curling and ice hockey will take place two days earlier.

Olympic hopes lie with ski jumpers

At the 2022 Winter Olympics, participants will fight for 109 gold medals in 15 different sports. In addition to well-known disciplines such as biathlon, curling and ice hockey, seven new competitions are also represented. For the first time, medals will also be awarded in the mixed competitions in ski jumping, the team relay in short track, women’s monobob, snowboard cross, ski freestyle (big aerials) and the big air events in ski freestyle for men and women.

Four years ago in Pyeongchang, the German team achieved a surprising second place in the country ranking with 31 medals. A similar success is likely to be difficult in Beijing. Disappointments are looming in former parade disciplines such as biathlon and speed skating. On the other hand, there are gold chances for the ski jumpers around Karl Geiger and Katharina Althaus.

ZDF and ARD show live streams and TV programs

As usual, the Winter Olympics will be broadcast by the two public broadcasters ARD and ZDF as well as the private broadcaster Eurosport. ARD and ZDF broadcast up to 16 hours a day live from Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou. Due to the time difference, the competitions start at two in the morning German time. The competition day usually ends around 4 p.m.

The sports show will be moderated by Jessy Wellmer and Julia Scharf. Kati Wilhelm, Felix Neureuther and Sven Hannawald are working as experts. Michael Antwerpes reports on site. Rudi Cerne and Katrin Müller-Hohenstein lead through the program on ZDF. Amongst others, Laura Dahlmeier and Sven Fischer (biathlon), Marco Büchel (alpine skiing) and Toni Innauer (ski jumping) are at your side as experts.

In addition to the program on TV, Erste offers up to six different live stream channels, which can be viewed in parallel on sportschau.de. ZDF broadcasts the live streams in the media library, on zdfheute.de and sportstudio.de.
