WLAN passwords must currently be on pieces of paper or at the network access point if Windows 11 users want to enter them. Microsoft works in Insider Build 25977 a way to make it easier to share saved passwords for wireless networks in the future. The login information is saved in a QR code and can be shared – no need to enter the password manually.
The function is reminiscent of password sharing on Android phones or Linux. Since a classic Windows notebook does not use a rear camera, the feature is probably intended for sharing the password for guest phones or tablets. Regardless, it can make dialing in easier.
Microsoft integrates password sharing within the Settings app under WLAN settings (Network and Internet -> WLAN). Stored passwords should also be able to be found there in plain text. However, the feature is still in a testing phase so far. It is part of Insider Build 25977, which is still an early version in the Canary Channel.
Improved location settings
Build 25977 also introduces, among other things, a new pop-up. This asks users for their consent as to whether apps can use location data or not. In addition, hearing aids with Bluetooth LE should be better supported by Windows 11. Nearby WiFi networks can also be managed within the location settings. These can ultimately also be used to determine location. It’s not clear when Microsoft will bring the new features to all customers. The Canary Channel usually contains very early builds that still need a few weeks to release. That shouldn’t be any different here.
