Will you be able to go a month without a car? Sytral will soon launch an experiment

The challenge: to do without your car for a month. Sytral announced on Wednesday that it would soon be carrying out an experiment with the help of 20 volunteers, already recruited. All of them live in the Carré de Soie district in Vaulx-en-Velin, near Lyon.

From October 4 until October 31, they will have to do without their personal car in favor of public transport, cycling, walking but also carpooling and carsharing. To do this, they will benefit from a “mobility kit” which will allow them to try out these alternative modes of travel free of charge.

Convince motorists to use other alternative modes of travel

Sytral and the metropolis of Lyon, both chaired by Bruno Bernard (EELV), have made no secret of the objective of this experiment. It will be a question of convincing the volunteers to take other means of locomotion on a long-term basis and to leave their car in the garage.

Since their election to the city of Lyon and the metropolis in 2020, environmentalists have committed to drastically reducing the place of cars in the city. They have already announced that diesels, not having a Crit’Air 0 or 1 sticker, would be banned from circulation in the center of Lyon, Villeurbanne and Caluire on January 1, 2026. This represents approximately 80% of the fleet. current automobile.
