Will the Constitutional Court become an extension of the Union? – Politics

Heating law, right to vote, supplementary budget: The Union likes to call the Federal Constitutional Court when it gets stuck. Will Karlsruhe become the extended arm of the opposition?

The CDU has just dealt the traffic light coalition its biggest defeat to date: With the help of the Federal Constitutional Court, it prevented the passage of the heating law. It’s a moment where you might expect Mario Czaja to triumph. The man is CDU general secretary – it’s part of the job profile to point out your own successes particularly loudly. But Czaja is surprisingly thoughtful, he almost justifies himself. Such a trip to Karlsruhe should “actually remain an exception – the parliamentary procedure belongs in parliament and not before the courts,” says the Secretary General of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. The traffic light lacks “respect for the tasks of the Bundestag, the people’s representation – that’s why we sometimes have to go this way to Karlsruhe”.
