The image went around the world overnight from Sunday to Monday. Onstage at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, a furious Will Smith climbed up to smack Chris Rock. The reason ? Moments earlier, the comedian made a joke about the haircut of his wife, Jada Pinkett (who suffers from alopecia), asking her if she was going to star in GI Jane 2 (in the first opus, Demi Moore enlists in the army and has to shave her hair).
What many viewers didn’t see was what happened after that shocking footage. As footage released by members of the public and shared on social media showed, just after the clash, Will Smith found himself framed by Bradley Cooper, Tyler Perry and Denzel Washington. His three colleagues spoke to him to bring him to his senses.
Peaceful discussion
After finishing talking with his colleague, Bradley Cooper ended up hugging him before returning to his seat, Will Smith seeming calmer. The former star of Prince of Bel Air also spent some time chatting with a member of his communications team (who later spoke with Jada Pinkett Smith), as added People.
The only information on what was exchanged during this friendly intervention comes from Will Smith himself. During his speech, when he had just accepted the Best Actor award for his role in The Williams Methodhe apologized, before revealing the words of his friend: “Denzel just said to me: ‘At the moment when you are at the highest, be careful, that’s where the devil comes to get you'”.
During his appearance a few minutes later, rapper P. Diddy announced that he intended to intervene to restore peace between the two stars. “Will and Chris, we’re going to settle this like a family. But for the moment, we will continue to move forward, with love, ”he said.
