Jim Carrey has railed against Hollywood acting on US television and slammed the reaction to Will Smith’s slap in the face at the Oscars. He would have sued Smith immediately after the attack.

It was the shocking moment of this year’s Oscars: Will Smith spontaneously ran onto the stage and slapped comedian Chris Rock after he made fun of Smith’s wife. Nevertheless, the show went on as planned and a little later Smith even received an Oscar and a standing ovation from the audience. The incident has dominated the headlines ever since. Now the actor Jim Carrey has also commented on American television – and sharply criticized his industry.

The standing ovation for Smith disgusted him, he said. “There’s a lot of spine missing in Hollywood and I really felt like that was a definite sign that we’re no longer part of the cool club,” Carrey said. Smith should have been taken away.

Will Smith was selfish

“I would have announced the next morning that I was suing Will for 200 million because this video will be there forever, it will be everywhere,” argues the 60-year-old. You can shout out from the audience if you don’t like something or tweet about it, but you never have the right to go on stage and smack someone in the face for using words.

He still wishes Will Smith the best. “He did great things. But it wasn’t a good moment. It cast a shadow over everyone else who was having their bright moment.” The whole thing was very selfish of Smith.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Chris Rock has so far refrained from filing charges. The comedian poked fun at Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett-Smith’s shaved hair. She is suffering from hair loss due to a disease. It’s unclear if Rock knew about the condition or not.

Will Smith apologized to him on Instagram the day after the event. According to the actor, violence is never a solution.
