Nice gimmick
Perhaps you noticed yesterday in the television broadcast of the third free practice session that there are now new overlays from the helicopter that stick the initials on the cars while driving.
For these overlays, the Formula 1 producers use intelligent computer technology that uses lap times, distances and route data to recognize the cars from the helicopter perspective and display the correct name. They can even be linked to the current speed.
Sure, things weren’t always completely clean, sometimes the abbreviation covered the car completely, but it’s nice to see that new gimmicks are always coming up to increase the viewing pleasure.

Frentzen is back!
Did you actually see the interview with former Formula 1 driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen during the Sky Germany broadcast yesterday?
Since his daughter really wanted to do Formula 1 and encouraged her father a bit to share his memories on social media, he doesn’t just have his Twitter account reactivated, but also took part in a recording for the official Formula 1 podcast “Beyond the Grid”.
I don’t know about you, but I’m happy that Frentzen is more in the public eye again and I hope that we’ll see him in our regular channel members’ table at the Formula1.de YouTube channel or in the Formula 1 podcast “Starting Grid” get. Or both!
one of the guys
Brad Pitt and the crew of the Apple TV Formula 1 film are in the pit lane, the paddock and the track this weekend.
Of course, Pitt was also present at the driver briefing, he wanted to soak up the whole experience. The pilots loved him, saying he was “one of the guys”.
There is more about this in the article by my colleague Ruben Zimmermann!

How will be the weather?
One question that is always very important to you on race day is about the weather.
Our weatherman Stefan Ehlen has just updated the weather report and wrote me as a summary for the live ticker:
“Lots of clouds, but still sunny at up to 23 degrees Celsius. The chance of rain increases in the second half of the race, but even then it’s only 30 percent. And if it rains, it’s probably only light. Tailwind on the home straight and headwind on the hangar Straights at 20 km/h on average and up to 40 km/h at the top.”

Good eye, good intuition, good engineer
Today, Peter Prodromou is a man who will be on everyone’s lips. The technical director responsible for aerodynamics must have taken a close look when Sergio Perez’s RB19 was hooked up in Monaco.
No, the updates to McLaren’s MCL60 are not a 1:1 copy of the Red Bull, even if Lewis Hamilton claims they have something in common. But they are the result of good engineering work by the Greeks.

Humanity at the F1 machine
Yes, Max Verstappen can also be human and make mistakes like everyone else. Yesterday during qualifying, when exiting the garage, he had “understeer and too little grip on the rear axle”, drove into the pit wall and smashed his front wing.
Freely based on the legendary Leclerc-Verstappen meme: an “inchident”.
My colleague Norman Fischer made a little story about it!
Damn long ago!
Loosely based on the Cologne band BAP and their hit “Verdamp long ago”, in High German “Damn long ago”, a fact that really surprised me.
For McLaren it is the first front row start at the home Grand Prix in Silverstone since 2008!
At that time, pole setter Heikki Kovalainen, it was his only one in his entire Formula 1 career, slipped back from first to fifth place. Lewis Hamilton won.
tire choice
Strategy could be a very exciting affair today.
Like our data expert Kevin Hermann in his detailed long-run analysis on Friday on the Formel1.de YouTube channel said there are several strategies that can be quick and successful.
Pirelli has revealed to us the sets of tires available and what they think are the quickest strategies.
No high hopes
Our editor-in-chief, Christian Nimmervoll, is known for his down-to-earth approach when it comes to realistically portraying the high hopes of fans like me.
He took a closer look at McLaren before the British Grand Prix and found that it would be extremely difficult to get on the podium.
You can read his story here!
Goethe wins!
A short excursion into Formula 3, which is always very early on at the tracks where they are involved.
The first win of the day goes to a German! Well, at least he’s racing under the German flag, but he was born in Great Britain, but has a very famous relative in Johann Wolfgang von Goethe: Oliver Goethe won the main race!
His first win, congratulations!
Quali Analysis
Last night editor-in-chief Christian Nimmervoll and me on the Formel1.de YouTube channel made a special kind of quality analysis.
Due to a failure of our direction, we were “old school” and rather improvised, which we had a lot of fun with. But of course we have carefully worked through the topics of Saturday again, starting with the McLaren sensation, but also the little ailments of Max Verstappen, the spat at Ferrari on the radio, the “problem teams” Mercedes, Aston Martin and Alpine and we have your questions answered.
Grab the coffee, the croissant and look back with us on the qualification in Silverstone.
